-Arrest by SAPS occurred when a resident and a suspect had an altecation, the suspect damaged the resident’s intercom.
-Attempted Business Burglary occurred on 4th avenue, the shopkeeper noticed that the door had been tampered with upon arriving at work.

Parktown North
-Theft out of motor vehicle occurred on 3rd avenue, when a visitor parked her vehicle in front of the restaurants, car guards were present at the time, a laptop was stolen out of the boot.

SECURITY ALERTS
A recurring trend is again rearing its head where criminals request permission to enter a property from the domestic worker or gardener. However, when the domestic worker says they need to confirm we have had reports that the CONMEN say they will call the owner, request the number and pretend to dial and speak to the owner.
-Make sure that your domestic workers and gardeners have access to a remote panic button and that they keep it on their person at all times while working at your home.
-Educate your domestic employees about CONMEN and to not allow anyone onto or near the property unless you have spoken with them directly.
-Have a discussion with your staff around general security and safety around the home such as making sure to lock gates and doors as they move through the home, how to use the panic unit, who to call during an emergency and how to reduce the likelihood of being conned by criminals.

Anti- Hijacking Demonstration by CORTAC
Please contact info@parksec.co.za should you and your neighbors (your street) be interested in CORTAC arranging an anti-hijack demonstration. This will be arranged at a time convenient for residents per street and is about 20 minutes. This demonstration is highly recommended due to the rise in crime especially since Christmas season is approaching.

Safeparks/Parksec Crime Update: 5 July – 12 July 2017

Safeparks/Parksec Crime Update: 5 July  12 July 2017
Parkhurst , Parktown North and Parkwood residents and business owners

Questions from RESIDENTS

Why is there an increase in crime in the Parkhurst area?
The main contributing factor and criminal activity in Parkhurst is mainly on 4th avenue and the adjacent streets where visitors park their vehicles.
It is common for business nodes in residential areas to bring in more crime as there is no secure parking and the informal carguards are currently contributing to the crime.
SAFEPARKS/PARKSEC committee are discussing various security options and will provide feedback shortly.

PLEASE NOTE!
Previously, SAFEPARKS/PARKSEC only reported on crimes reported to the CORTAC control room and not crimes reported to Parkview SAPS as SAPS did not provide this information.
After much consultation with SAPS, they are now providing this information to us so that we can give a more realistic picture of the crime in Parkhurst and Parktown North.
It would seem that there is a recent spike in crime but this is not necessarily the case, it is just that we are now able to give a more accurate report on all crimes whether it is a CORTAC client or not.

The following includes crimes reported to us over the period

*DISCLAIMER: Whilst every effort is made to report on all crimes and their accurancy for the given time period, we advise that not all crimes are reported timeously or correctly. Should you be aware of any criminal incident not reported in our Newsletter, kindly email us on info@parksec.co.za and we will verify and ensure it is reported in our next Newsletter.

More details relating to the incidents listed above:
Parkhurst
-Theft out of motor vehicle occurred on 13th street, a white Toyota Fortuna was parked on the street, suspects smashed the back window and stole a laptop, handbag and wallet.
-Home Invasion occurred on 2nd avenue, further details below under ARREST BY CORTAC.

ALERTS
-Please be alert along 4th avenue, crime is on the increase due to the influx of visitors visiting Parkhurst over the weekends, please alert all your friends not to stand on the sidewalks with bags and cellphones as the modus operandi is for suspects to drive along 4th avenue scouting out opportunities and then stopping, pointing a firearm and then taking valuables.

Another ARREST BY CORTAC
A home invasion occurred on Tuesday night, 11 July 2017 in Parkhurst.  A neighbouring resident reported hearing noises that sounded like someone forcing a door open in the vicinity.

WELL DONE CORTAC! GREAT REVIEW FROM A NON-CORTAC CLIENT

“Your guys are really terrific. When I move, I will definitely want to employ CORTAC as my security company due to the service, promptness and kindness of your security officers.

I once again have to mention the extra assistance I got from four of your officers. The outside light at my gate was no longer working and two of your guys assisted me Tuesday night – I unfortunately did not get their names – and helped me to unscrew and dismantle a rather complicated light cover.

In all my encounters with Cortac your officers have been so helpful and just truly amazing – always willing to assist and go the extra mile, or take another walk around the house when I needed reassurance.

Thank you to all at Cortac – from the friendly and helpful receptionists who always greets one warmly and with enthusiasm – without fail, to the senior head office sergeant (Josh  Isaacs) who takes the time to promptly answer emails.”

Thank you!
